The Powder Coating process involves applying a dry electrostatically charged powder to a surface, which is then heated in an oven. The powder melts into a smooth, uniform and hard protective layer. Commonly used on metal, but advancements have allowed for coating other materials like wood, plastic and glass. The powder is made from polymer resins, pigments and other additives that form a tough, thick finish when cured. A superior finish providing excellent resistance to scratches, chipping and wear.

As a professional automotive mechanic of 20 years, I’ve seen all kinds of coating offered for parts and tools. Powder coating has always been the method that stands out. It’s durable and versatile, with a finish of matt or high gloss and everything in between.

How my work is presented is very important to me and powder coating gives the parts that do the job a well-earned finish as beautiful as today’s powder coatings can offer.

Having my own business allows me to teach and instil the values of life onto my young family, being close to family and working together is also very important to me and this business allows me and my family to share our passion with you.

As a locally based owner serving Regina, I travel to and from the shop daily, making consultations, deliveries, and pickups easy to arrange within the city for your convenience.

At RRS our powder coating process is the same for most all pieces we restore, first we pressure wash and degrease the parts or items followed by a soak in our metal stripping compound which is an acid bath. After being soaked and cleaned of all existing paints and coatings the bare metal is taken to our Media Blasting area. Blasting the metal removes any remaining impurities and materials, leaving a roughed up surface allowing the powder to bite into the metal ensuring a long lasting permanent bond. Then into the curing oven for an hour at 400 degrees fahrenheit, this is called ‘outgassing’ which is the final cleaning process for the item(s) This removes and gasses out any impurities buried deep in the metals. From here the selected powder is applied then cured in the oven to manufacture specs.
